SCHOOL COUNSELING & GUIDANCE

  • Philosophy of the Guidance Department

Bergenfield's School Counseling Program consists of counselors at each level dedicated to the success and well-being of each and every student. Our professional counselors demonstrate this by providing a comprehensive school counseling program in partnership with students, educators, parents/guardians, and the community.

Our elementary counseling team works with students, staff, and families to support social, emotional, and academic development. Counselors provide classroom lessons on character education and hold individual and group counseling sessions to assist students in achieving success. In partnership with families and the community, our elementary counselors seek to bridge communication between home and school, to support the efforts of students, teachers, support staff, and administration.

The middle school counselors at Roy W. Brown Middle School School value the importance of creating a caring and supportive climate where young adolescents can achieve academic and social-emotional success. The counselors enhance the learning process through individual counseling and group lessons that support the vision of the curriculum. Counselors are there to encourage students to explore their personal interests, make independent decisions, and practice positive social skills in preparation for the future transition to high school.

The Bergenfield High School counselors work with students over the four years to develop goals as students plan for their postsecondary future. Counselors facilitate personal exploration through course selection, resume building, vocational training, and college/career readiness. Counselors assist students in evaluating their strengths and challenges, guiding them towards a best fit of college, career, and beyond. Through encouragement, counselors aid in student development and maximizing their potential.
